Lip balm is pretty much a staple of any woman’s handbag, and it’s the gender-neutral beauty product that men love, too. Many of us even have multiple lip balms – one for the bag, one for the car, and a spare in case one goes missing. We’re addicted to lip balm!
Our lips are prone to becoming dry and chapped, especially in harsh weather conditions like burning sun or freezing cold. This makes lip balm an essential product; it protects our lips and keeps them looking healthy and feeling smooth and plump.
It’s important to find a good quality lip balm, though. Most people are aware of the rumours that lip balm manufacturers add in products that actually dry your lips out, pushing you to buy more of their product. The best quality lip balms, however, are truly good for your skin; and you’ll still keep coming back for more!
And now, the new kid on the block in the supplement industry, CBD, is the next killer ingredient in lip balms. With CBD skincare products sweeping the nation, we are about to give you the low-down on CBD lip balms, including where to buy the best ones and how to make your own.
CBD Lip Balm: The CBD Product for Everyone
If you were wondering what CBD lip balm is, it’s exactly what it says on the tube: Lip balm containing cannabidiol (CBD). The non-psychoactive component of cannabis has become a huge hit on the wellness scene. Cannabidiol, as it turns out, has some pretty great benefits for your health.
Through its ability to interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), CBD is able to support our general health and wellbeing. This is why many people have turned to it as a means of maintaining a healthy lifestyle; users simply take a small dose of CBD each day as a food supplement. These supplements can come in the form of sublingual oils, flavourful e-liquids, capsules, and even gummy bears.
Now, among the multitude of ways to consume CBD, skincare products have entered the market. But, if you’re applying CBD to your skin, surely it isn’t doing things like supporting your immune system and reducing anxiety? Well, no, but it is still having an impact on your health. Since the skin is the largest organ in the human body, it is vital to maintain it as best possible.
CBD has been suggested to have several benefits for the skin, such as:
- Anti-inflammatory: Intriguingly, the U.S.A had a patent on CBD for use as an anti-inflammatory. This means that its anti-inflammatory effects have been well-known for a while, and have been researched in several studies. Inflammation can cause puffiness and redness in the skin, so adding anti-inflammatory products like CBD to face creams may be able to help with this.
- Anti-oxidant: Another key ingredient in any skincare product is antioxidants. These molecules help to fight off oxidisation in cells, a process which causes visible signs of aging like wrinkles. With CBD acting as an antioxidant, it may help to keep the skin looking young.
With these skin-loving benefits, it should be no question that CBD is a fabulous ingredient for things like lip balm. However, some consumers are troubled by the fact that it comes from cannabis. There is really no cause for concern, though, as CBD is non-psychoactive and non-addictive; it will not cause any sort of psychoactive high, leaving you to go about your day as normal – albeit with nicer-looking lips.
Topical CBD products – those that you apply to your skin – are the perfect CBD product for anyone to use. Even those who dislike the idea of taking food supplements cannot turn their nose up at CBD in their moisturiser – it just makes for one more ingredient that can do good for your skin.
So, without further ado, let’s check out some of the best CBD lip balms you could possibly spend your money on.
Best CBD Lip Balms to Buy Online
Much of the CBD market is online. Most manufacturers will ship their products right to your door once you order from their website. There are also CBD products being sold in stores and pharmacies, but these vary wildly from shop to shop. It’s much easier to browse a selection of online products. So, here are our top 5 picks for CBD lip balms online.
1. Ambience CBD-Infused Lip Balm – £6.99
Recently, High Street shops in the UK have been stocking CBD products. Both Boots and Holland & Barrett are now selling the Ambience CBD-Infused Lip Balm, albeit for slightly different prices. While Holland & Barrett stock the balm for £6.99, Boots retails the product for £7.00.
This balm comes in a small tub brandished with the Ambience CBD logo. With ingredients like beeswax, mango butter, shea butter, and coconut oil, this balm smells delightful and moisturises your lips. Of course, it also contains 50mg of CBD for an extra boost.
You can buy it from Holland & Barrett here.
2. Endoca CBD Lips + Skin – €7
Endoca CBD is a well-known brand with a huge array of products. It’s no wonder that they have their own CBD lip balm. The company ships to a huge number of countries worldwide, including the UK; however, the pricing for the UK site is in euros, which is a bit weird. At the time of writing, €7 works out at around £6.28, in case you were wondering.
This THC-free balm comes in a chapstick-style tube, although the product can also be applied anywhere on the skin. It contains hemp oil, beeswax, coconut oil, Vitamin E, vanilla extract, limonene, and honey, as well as 20mg of CBD.
You can buy Endoca CBD Lips + Skin here.
3. Elixinol CBD Lip Balm – £7.45
Elixinol is another famed brand in the industry, with a fairly good selection of products. It is mostly known for its CBD liposomes, allowing you to create tasty CBD beverages. However, Elixinol now also sells a CBD Lip Balm for just £7.45.
The balm comes in a tube containing full-spectrum hemp extract. It is also infused with Vitamin E and ingredients like jojoba oil and rosehip oil. In other words, this balm will be very kind to your skin; it is also a source of Vitamin D.
It must be noted, however, that this lip balm only contains 5mg of CBD, making it much weaker than other products on our list.
You can buy this balm from the official Elixinol site here.
4. Vertly Hemp CBD Infused Lip Balm – $22
Unfortunately, Vertly is a US-based brand, meaning that getting a hold of its CBD lip balm in the UK will be difficult. This is a very high-end CBD brand, selling its small tub of CBD Lip Balm for $22 (about £17.36). The list of ingredients spans all manner of things, such as coconut oil, shea butter, cacao butter, kokum butter and jojoba oil. It also has an added 25 mg of CBD.
According to Vertly, this product is special because each lip butter is handcrafted in small batches. It contains no parabens, no gluten, and no petroleum. Delightful! Furthermore, you have the option to purchase the Hemp CBD Infused Lip Balm in three scents: Cocoa, Peppermint, and Rose.
You can check out the Vertly CBD lip balm here.
5. Hemp Elf CBD Lip Balm – £3.99
A relatively new brand, Hemp Elf is making a splash with this tube of CBD-infused lip balm. In the scent of Cherry Cream, this appealing lip balm contains 50 mg of hemp for a very cheap price.
It has a lot fewer reviews and testimonies than other CBD products, but the brand has third-party lab reports and a decent social media presence. As such, we give it a thumbs up especially for its price.
You can buy the Hemp Elf CBD Lip Balm here.
Make Your Own CBD Lip Balm at Home
If none of these products are taking your fancy, you can always try making your own CBD lip balm at home. Here is a quick and simple recipe you can use. Our recipe is based primarily around beeswax – this is a popular product in many lip balms, and buying it is a way to fuel the bee-keeping industry and save the bees!
You will need:
- Coconut oil
- Shea butter
- Essential oil of your choice
- CBD oil of your choice
- Empty chapstick tubes or small tubs
- Pipette (for easy filling)
- Glass bowl and saucepan
- Melt the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil in a glass bowl over a small saucepan of boiling water, using equal parts of each. Stir the mix constantly until melted.
- Remove the pan from the heat, but keep the bowl over the hot water so the mixture remains melted.
- Add in the essential oils and the CBD oil. You only need a few drops of essential oil, and around 25-50mg of CBD. Mix the oils in well, only a few drops at a time.
- Use the pipette to fill the chapstick tubes or tubs with melted mixture. Be quick, because the mixture will begin to harden.
- Allow the tubes/tubs to sit until the mixture has fully hardened, and then put the top on.
Et voila! You have created your very own CBD lip balm!
