CBD is an absolutely booming industry now. It is growing in popularity all the time, not only in Great Britain but also overseas. With recent legalisation of recreational marijuana in Canada, and several US states also making moves to legalise the herb either recreationally or medicinally, governments are certainly waking up to the idea that cannabis isn’t so bad.
The British government is not quite so liberal. A recent review changed the status of medicinal cannabis slightly, allowing certain cannabis-derived medicinal products in the treatment of severe illnesses. Generally, though, cannabis and marijuana are still strictly illegal throughout the UK.
However, a small exception is made for cannabidiol. This compound is being used as a health supplement throughout the country, used by a number of people for a variety of motivations. With it being so popular, brands are popping up all over the place to sell CBD products. There are also some already-established brands jumping on the CBD train to sell their own range of cannabidiol products. One such brand is Healthspan, a supplement brand who have branched out into the CBD industry, but are their products any good?
Who are Healthspan?
Healthspan are a supplement company who have been around for decades. Founded in 1996 by Derek Coates, the company started out with just 6 products. From the very beginning, the focus has been on providing quality products and excellent customer service to their customers.
To this day, Healthspan continue to provide quality by working with a team of experts to craft amazing products. Their quality is completely assured by the wonderful number of professional sports teams they are partnered with, including Scottish Rugby, Tottenham Hotspur, and British Tennis, among others.
They remain at the forefront of the supplement industry, ensuring that all their products are produced to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
As well as selling great products, the Healthspan website provides a wealth of information on healthy living, which is great for consumers looking to lead a healthy lifestyle. Some articles are even dedicated to CBD and cannabis oils, which is good news for new consumers.
Healthspan CBD Products
As we have mentioned, Healthspan are a supplement brand who sell a variety of different products. This includes skincare products, fitness supplements, healthy food and drink, vitamins, and even supplements for your pets. But what about their CBD?
Healthspan CBD Oils
Visit the cannabis oil section of their website, and you’ll see that Healthspan provide an enormous bank of information. As a member of the Cannabis Trades Association (CTA UK), it is clear that Healthspan products can be trusted. They make it very clear that their CBD comes from hemp and NOT marijuana, and that their products contain minimal THC. Furthermore, handy dosing information is provided to help newcomers. This is great, because most companies don’t provide this level of dosing information – there is even a useful graphic.
Healthspan sell one oil product and two capsule varieties. These are all made using CO2 extraction to draw the CBD out of the hemp plant.
The High Strength CBD Oil Drops come in a filter-clear oil form. It is a broad-spectrum product, and comes in a delicious peppermint flavour to mask the taste of the hemp. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans, the dropper gives you more control over the exact dosage, and there is 0.75 mg of CBD per drop. With 250 mg in the bottle in total, this option costs £18.99, working out at 7.6p per mg of CBD.
The High Strength CBD Oil Capsules are similar, in that they are all-natural and non-GMO. Olive oil is an added ingredient that helps with absorption in the body. The capsules are sold in 30-count and 60-count tubs, containing 6.4mg of CBD per capsule. This means they range from 129 mg in total (£18.99) to 348 mg (£34.99). At these prices, the cost per milligram varies between 9.8p and 9.1p. Note that this option is the only non-vegan CBD product.
Finally, there is the Super Strength CBD Oil Capsules. These are the same as the other capsules, only much stronger – they are not suitable for beginners. Healthspan recommend that newbies take the High Strength capsules before progressing onto Super Strength. Containing 15 mg of CBD per capsule, the tub count changes the total CBD from 450 mg to 900 mg. The price ranges between £39.99, at 8.8p per milligram, and 7.2p per milligram, making these capsules the best value per milligram.
- Discrete packaging that won’t let everyone (i.e. the postman and nosy neighbours) know you’re taking CBD.
- A very reputable brand that partnerships with professional and popular sports teams. This speaks volumes about the quality of the products, and also says a lot about how trustworthy they are.
- As a brand that has been around for decades, you know that it is a brand you can trust.
- Healthspan offer sign-up promotions that help you to save money by ordering continuously – they clearly reward loyal customers.
- It says on the site that the price of the CBD was recently reduced because they increased their manufacturing load. This shows that they are constantly working on improving their products, and that the prices shown reflect the creation process accurately.
- There is plenty of information about each individual CBD product to help you make an informed decision.
- Since Healthspan is not solely dedicated to CBD, there is not an enormous range. For e-liquids, topicals, and other products, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
- We’re not sure where to find 3rd party lab reports for these products, although it does say on the site that they are batch tested.
The Last Word on Healthspan
As a trustworthy and reputable brand that has stood the test of time, we think it’s fair to say that Healthspan are a decent place to buy CBD. That being said, it’s unfortunate that the product range isn’t larger.
The fact that a non-CBD brand have expanded their product range into CBD at all says a lot about the UK CBD industry. It’s clear that this health supplement is here to stick around, and we can’t wait to see where it goes next.
